A new intraocular lens is generating strong results in the ophthalmology world. Presented at the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) meeting in London, 3-month outcomes from an ongoing prospective study of the Tecnis Odyssey IOL (Johnson & Johnson Vision) show excellent visual performance across all distances, low residual astigmatism, and high patient satisfaction — with surgeons noting unusually smooth post-op experiences.
The lens, classified as a "smooth full depth of field" IOL by the global Functional Vision Working Group, delivered monocular uncorrected distance vision close to 20/20, with binocular uncorrected intermediate and near vision at 20/25. Contrast sensitivity remained within normal limits in both day and night conditions, and patients felt confident driving at night.
