Zocdoc makes its first-ever acquisition, buying insurance tech company Sohar Health to streamline benefits eligibility checks for patients and providers. The deal aims to eliminate the frustrating guesswork around insurance coverage at the moment of booking. Over 1 million patients have already used Sohar's verification tools through Zocdoc since their partnership began in 2025.
Zocdoc has made its first acquisition in nearly 20 years, purchasing insurance technology company Sohar Health to supercharge its push beyond appointment booking and into full-scale healthcare access infrastructure. Sohar's APIs automate insurance discovery, eligibility and benefits verification, network status checks, and cost estimates — tools Zocdoc has already been using since 2025 to help patients confirm coverage while searching for care.
The two companies were already partners before the deal, and the results speak for themselves: 1 million patients have verified their insurance coverage through Zocdoc since the collaboration kicked off. Sohar will continue operating under its own name and serving existing customers, though financial terms weren't disclosed.
The acquisition fits neatly into Zocdoc's broader expansion strategy. In September, the company launched its Care Access Network enterprise offering, letting payers and tech platforms embed booking capabilities directly into their own apps — with partners including Amazon Health AI, Google's Gemini, Yelp, and Blue Shield of California.
Quick Facts:
Why it matters: Insurance confusion is one of the biggest barriers to care. By automating eligibility checks at the point of booking, Zocdoc and Sohar aim to remove a major friction point for both patients and providers — making it easier to access care when it's needed most.
