GE HealthCare is acquiring Sofie Biosciences for $945 million in cash, boosting its radiopharmaceuticals portfolio. The deal adds U.S. rights to FAPI-74, a promising experimental PET imaging agent for cancer detection. It's the latest in a wave of big-money deals reshaping the radiopharma landscape.
GE HealthCare is making a major bet on the booming radiopharmaceuticals market, announcing a $945 million all-cash acquisition of privately held Sofie Biosciences. The deal significantly strengthens GE HealthCare's ability to manufacture and distribute PET imaging drugs — a segment seeing explosive interest as radioactive drugs become increasingly central to cancer care.
The crown jewel of the acquisition is U.S. rights to FAPI-74, a late-stage experimental PET imaging agent with potential to detect multiple cancer types. GE HealthCare already holds rights to the product outside the U.S., so this deal completes its global picture. Sofie will continue serving its existing customers — including other radiopharma companies — after the deal closes, expected in the first half of 2027.
By the Numbers:
Why it matters: Radiopharmaceuticals are rapidly emerging as a cornerstone of precision oncology, and this acquisition positions GE HealthCare as a vertically integrated player — owning both the imaging systems and the drugs that run on them. Expect more consolidation as the industry races to meet growing clinical demand.
