Getting your medical records just got a digital upgrade. The partnership aims to cut down on manual review steps, reduce friction, and give healthcare providers greater confidence that records reach the right person.
Getting your medical records just got a digital upgrade
Datavant, a health data exchange network connecting over 80,000 hospitals and clinics, is teaming up with digital identity platform ID.me to streamline how patients request their medical records. By embedding ID.me's reusable digital credential into Datavant's patient request tool, the partnership aims to replace cumbersome manual identity checks with a fast, secure, and standardized verification process — one patients may already use in other parts of their lives.
The integration is designed to benefit both patients and providers — reducing friction on the patient side while giving healthcare organizations a more auditable, compliant workflow for releasing records. Importantly, about 73% of patients using ID.me through Datavant's tool are already credentialed, meaning most won't need to create a new account.
By the Numbers
Why it matters: Secure, frictionless access to medical records is a cornerstone of healthcare interoperability. This partnership signals a broader industry shift toward standardized digital identity as a key enabler of patient-directed health data sharing.
