The FDA has cleared the Mint, a new tubeless insulin patch pump from Beta Bionics. Smaller than the Omnipod, it features a reusable-and-disposable design with no recharging needed, integrates with leading CGMs, and boasts a 200-unit reservoir with a 3-day wear period. A commercial launch is expected in early 2027, exclusively through the pharmacy channel.
The FDA has cleared the Mint, a tubeless insulin patch pump from Beta Bionics — giving people with diabetes a new alternative to the Omnipod, currently the only other tubeless option on the market. The Mint stands out for its reusable-and-disposable architecture, meaning no recharging is ever required. It's compatible with Dexcom G7, Dexcom G7 15 Day, and Abbott's FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus CGMs, and works with both iOS and Android smartphones. Beta Bionics plans a commercial launch in Q1 2027, available exclusively through the pharmacy channel.
Looking ahead, Beta Bionics has also applied for FDA clearance of a next-generation dosing algorithm called 3D Intelligence, which would power both the Mint and its existing iLet Bionic Pancreas system (rebranded as Mint 3D and iLet 3D, respectively). The algorithm offers three modes: Original, Optimized (incorporating real-world iLet learnings), and Conservative (a gentler approach to correcting high glucose).
Why it matters: The Mint expands the tubeless pump landscape with a no-recharge design and broad CGM compatibility — potentially improving convenience and access for insulin-dependent patients. If the 3D Intelligence algorithm gains clearance, it could further personalize automated insulin delivery at scale.
