Wegovy works in young kids too: Semaglutide slashes obesity rates in children as young as 6

Novo Nordisk's semaglutide — the active ingredient in Wegovy — is making waves beyond its established adult and adolescent user base. Results from a late-stage clinical trial show that the drug significantly reduced obesity rates in children as young as 6, a population that has had very limited pharmacological treatment options until now.

The trial tracked children aged 6 to under 12 over 68 weeks, and the results were striking: assuming full adherence to treatment, 40.4% of participants were no longer classified as having obesity by the end of the study period. This builds on earlier data supporting semaglutide's efficacy in teens and adults, and could set the stage for a regulatory push to expand Wegovy's approved age range.
