LSD-derived DT120 clears phase 3 hurdles for anxiety and depression. Definium Therapeutics' oral LSD formulation, DT120, met primary endpoints in two phase 3 trials — Voyage (GAD) and Emerge (MDD) — with significant symptom improvements seen as early as week 1 and sustained through week 12. The drug, which holds FDA Breakthrough Therapy designations for both conditions, was well-tolerated with no serious adverse events or suicidality signals.
LSD-derived drug clears phase 3 hurdles for anxiety and depression
Definium Therapeutics' DT120 — an orally disintegrating tablet formulation of lysergide (LSD) — has hit primary endpoints in two pivotal phase 3 trials, offering a potential new treatment paradigm for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). Unlike daily antidepressants, DT120 is administered as a single supervised dose, with patients cleared to leave within 5–8 hours. The drug holds FDA Breakthrough Therapy designations for both GAD and MDD, and the company plans to file a new drug application in the first half of 2027.
Results were presented at the NEI Fall Congress and are backed by earlier phase 3 data. Patients described feeling "truly different" rather than simply having symptoms suppressed — a distinction the company believes sets DT120 apart from existing antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.
By the Numbers
Why it matters: With millions of patients failing existing treatments for GAD and MDD, DT120 represents a potentially transformative shift — a single-dose therapy that delivers rapid, durable relief without the burden of daily medication. If approved, it could reshape how psychiatrists approach two of the most common and debilitating mental health conditions.
