US telehealth company Hims & Hers Health has launched an online weight management service for men in Germany, its latest European expansion. The move targets a country where nearly 1 in 5 adults live with obesity and weight-loss medications are largely not covered by insurance. Patients can consult EU-licensed clinicians online and receive prescriptions or be referred for in-person care.
US telehealth giant Hims & Hers Health has officially entered the German weight management market with a new online service tailored for men — and the timing makes sense. Germany is grappling with a significant obesity burden, with nearly 1 in 5 adults affected and more than 6 in 10 men classified as overweight. Yet access to treatment remains a major gap, as health insurance plans typically don't cover weight-loss medications, leaving patients to foot the bill themselves.
The service lets patients complete an online consultation and, if eligible, receive a prescription from an EU-licensed clinician. Those who need more hands-on care are referred to local providers. Hims already has a foothold in Europe through the UK — bolstered by its acquisition of digital health startup Zava last year — making Germany its next big bet on the continent.
By the Numbers:
Why it matters: With insurance coverage largely absent for weight-loss drugs in Germany, millions of patients are navigating obesity on their own. Hims' entry could expand access to structured, clinician-guided care — though questions around affordability and scalability in a new market remain.
