Epic is teaming up with Amazon Pharmacy, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, Costco, and Eli Lilly's LillyDirect to launch a prescription price comparison tool inside its EHR platform. Set to debut in summer 2027, the marketplace lets clinicians and patients compare insurance vs. cash prices at multiple pharmacies before a prescription is even sent. The goal: tackle the medication cost barrier head-on, right at the point of care.
Epic is joining forces with Amazon Pharmacy, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs, Costco, and Eli Lilly's LillyDirect to build a prescription marketplace that brings drug price transparency directly into the clinical workflow. Launching in summer 2027, the tool will allow clinicians and patients at Epic-powered health systems to compare insurance prices and pharmacy cash prices side by side — before the prescription is ever sent.
The move addresses a persistent and costly problem: more than 40% of American adults report skipping medications due to cost. By surfacing price options at the point of prescribing, Epic aims to reduce pharmacy abandonment and close care gaps. The company already offers a real-time prescription benefit feature in its EHR, which it says saved patients over $250 million in 2025 alone.
By the Numbers:
Why it matters: Medication non-adherence due to cost is a major driver of poor health outcomes. Embedding price transparency directly into the prescribing workflow — rather than leaving patients to discover cheaper options after leaving the office — could meaningfully improve adherence and reduce financial burden at scale.
