GE HealthCare has appointed Rodolphe Katra, formerly Medtronic's global chief AI officer, to the same role at GE HealthCare. Katra brings 25 years of experience in medtech, AI, and R&D. He'll focus on connecting devices, software, and data to deliver more precise, insight-driven care.
GE HealthCare is doubling down on artificial intelligence with a high-profile executive hire. The company has appointed Rodolphe Katra — most recently Medtronic's global chief AI officer — to lead its AI strategy. CEO Peter Arduini announced the move on LinkedIn, highlighting Katra's 25 years of experience navigating complex clinical and regulatory environments in medtech and AI.
Katra will report to Chief Technology Officer Taha Kass-Hout and work alongside GE HealthCare's segment teams. His mandate: connect devices, software, and data to generate better clinical insights and enable more precise, longitudinal patient care. The hire fills a gap left by Parminder Bhatia, GE HealthCare's first-ever chief AI officer, who departed earlier this year to join Edwards Lifesciences.
By the Numbers:
Why it matters: As AI becomes central to medical imaging and diagnostics, having dedicated executive leadership signals that major medtech players are treating AI as a core business strategy — not just a feature. GE HealthCare's aggressive AI buildout could reshape how clinical decisions are made across health systems worldwide.
