One step closer to "Nation's Doctor." The Senate HELP Committee voted to advance radiologist Dr. Nicole Saphier as the U.S. Surgeon General nominee. Trump's third pick for the role, Saphier is a breast imaging director at Memorial Sloan Kettering and former Fox News contributor who voiced support for childhood vaccines during her confirmation hearing. A full Senate vote is still to come.
One step closer to "Nation's Doctor." The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) voted on September 30 to favorably advance Dr. Nicole Saphier as the U.S. Surgeon General nominee, clearing a key hurdle before a final Senate floor vote.
Saphier, a radiologist and director of breast imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, holds an MD from Ross University School of Medicine and completed fellowships at the Mayo Clinic. She is President Trump's third nominee for the post — following the withdrawn nominations of Janette Nesheiwat and Casey Means earlier in 2025. The HELP Committee also advanced several other Trump administration nominees at HHS and the National Mediation Board in the same session.
