August AI, a health chatbot used by 9 million people in 160 countries, is now offering U.S. telehealth services under the name August Care. For $39/month, members get unlimited AI chat, monthly telehealth visits, next-day labs, and fast prescriptions. The company says it can save members up to $3,500 a year — and its free AI chatbot isn't going anywhere.
August AI steps out of stealth with a direct-to-consumer telehealth play
August AI — a health chatbot quietly used by over 9 million people across 160 countries — has officially launched U.S. telehealth services under the brand August Care. For $39/month, members get unlimited AI health chat, one telehealth visit per month, next-day lab access, and prescriptions sent to a pharmacy within 10 minutes of physician approval. The company is also piloting overnight medication delivery and plans to add prior auth support and follow-up reminders down the line.
Founded in 2022 by CEO Anuruddh Mishra — who was inspired by his own frustrating misdiagnosis experience — August positions its AI as a "health companion," not a replacement for doctors. Every clinical decision is made by a licensed physician, while AI fills the gaps between visits. The platform integrates with EHRs, explains lab results in plain language, and helps with benefits navigation.
By the Numbers
Why it matters: August is targeting the under- and uninsured first, aiming to close care access gaps for people who currently turn to general tools like ChatGPT for health questions. As AI-powered telehealth continues to scale, August's model highlights both the promise and the responsibility of using AI to bridge — rather than bypass — the clinical care system.
