A cheaper way to treat Hodgkin lymphoma is showing real promise. A phase 2 trial found that low-dose nivolumab (40 mg) combined with AVD chemotherapy achieved an overall response rate of nearly 96% after just 2 cycles in advanced classical Hodgkin lymphoma — while cutting drug costs by 75% compared to standard nivolumab dosing. The findings could be especially meaningful for resource-limited settings.
A cheaper way to treat Hodgkin lymphoma is showing real promise. A phase 2 trial presented at the Society of Hematology Oncology (SOHO) 2026 Annual Meeting found that low-dose nivolumab (40 mg) combined with AVD chemotherapy (doxorubicin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine) achieved impressive response rates in patients with advanced classical Hodgkin lymphoma — at a fraction of the usual cost.
Among 52 enrolled patients (median age 36, 60% female), the regimen delivered strong early results. After 2 cycles, the overall response rate hit 95.8%, and after all 6 cycles, the complete metabolic response rate reached 83.3%. Only 1 disease progression event was recorded at a median follow-up of 11 months.
