Dupilumab outperforms other biologics in severe asthma remission. A real-world European study found that patients with type 2 inflammatory severe asthma were significantly more likely to achieve clinical remission on dupilumab than on omalizumab or anti-IL-5 biologics. The advantage held even in patients with the highest levels of inflammatory biomarkers.
A large real-world study out of Europe is giving clinicians more confidence in dupilumab's edge over competing biologics for severe asthma. The EU-ADVANTAGE study — a multicenter, retrospective chart review — compared clinical remission rates after 12 months in patients aged 12 and older with type 2 (T2) inflammatory severe asthma treated with dupilumab, omalizumab, or anti-IL-5 biologics (benralizumab or mepolizumab). Clinical remission was defined as no severe exacerbations, no oral corticosteroid use, and stable or improved lung function.
Across the board, dupilumab came out on top — and the advantage was even more pronounced in patients with the highest T2 inflammatory biomarker levels, suggesting it may be particularly well-suited for the most biologically active disease.
