The FDA has issued a recall of Walmart's Great Value Organic Triple Berry Blend after an expanding E. coli outbreak sickened 17 people and hospitalized six across two states. The 10 oz bags (UPC 7874211226, best-by Feb. 9, 2028) were sold in 16 states, including Florida, Texas, Illinois, and Ohio, among others.
The contamination is traced back to a Chilean supplier, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., whose berries were also recalled in July after being linked to illnesses tied to Publix stores. The culprit is Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O145 (STEC), which can trigger hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) — a potentially life-threatening condition causing kidney failure, especially in young children.
