The promising results sent Transgene's stock soaring 20%, though researchers caution the small sample size limits statistical significance.
French biotech Transgene reported encouraging Phase 1 results for TG4050, its AI-powered personalised cancer vaccine developed with Japan's NEC Corp, targeting patients with high-risk head and neck cancer following surgery and chemoradiotherapy. The vaccine uses NEC's artificial intelligence to identify patient-specific tumour targets, making each dose uniquely tailored to the individual.
The trial results turned heads: all 16 patients who received TG4050 remained disease-free, while three out of 16 patients in the control arm experienced relapses. Analysts called the longer follow-up data a "robust dataset," though the study's authors were quick to note that the small patient numbers make it impossible to establish statistical significance just yet.
