A new Doximity survey finds that over 65% of physicians are already using AI daily or weekly, and many think they should be the primary financial beneficiaries when AI boosts their productivity. Over 40% believe they should capture most of the cost savings, while only 17% think those savings should flow to patients. AI proficiency is also becoming a real factor in hiring and career advancement.
As AI becomes a fixture in clinical and administrative workflows, physicians are getting vocal about who should benefit financially. A new Doximity report — drawing on nearly 23,000 U.S. physician responses from last year and over 250,000 compensation data points collected over seven years — reveals that more than 65% of doctors are already using AI on a daily or weekly basis. And a growing number think their paychecks should reflect that.
Nearly half of respondents said physicians should be the primary beneficiaries when AI enables them to handle more clinical work in the same amount of time. Just 17% felt savings should translate to lower costs for patients, and 20% favored sharing the benefits. Meanwhile, 39% of doctors say AI proficiency is already factoring into hiring decisions in their specialty.
