Analyzing data from England and Wales' National Major Trauma Registry (2020–2022), researchers found that traumatic brain injuries (TBI) accounted for roughly 36 out of every 100 moderate-to-severe e-scooter incidents. Adult e-scooter riders were 3.45x more likely than motorcyclists and 1.74x more likely than cyclists to sustain a TBI — a gap experts attribute largely to the vehicle's high center of gravity and near-zero helmet use.
