Abrocitinib beats dupilumab for eczema relief. A post hoc analysis of three phase 3 trials found that abrocitinib 200 mg delivered significantly higher rates of complete skin clearance and itch relief in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis patients by week 16. Notably, it also helped dupilumab non-responders achieve meaningful improvements after switching.
Abrocitinib is raising the bar for atopic dermatitis treatment. A post hoc analysis of three phase 3 trials — JADE DARE, JADE COMPARE, and JADE EXTEND — found that abrocitinib 200 mg outperformed both dupilumab and placebo in helping adult patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) achieve minimal disease activity, defined as at least 90% improvement in skin severity scores (EASI-90) combined with near-complete itch relief (PP-NRS 0/1) by week 16.
The results were especially notable for patients with severe baseline itch, where abrocitinib 200 mg and 100 mg both outperformed dupilumab. Even patients who had previously failed dupilumab saw meaningful gains after switching to abrocitinib in the long-term JADE EXTEND trial.
By the Numbers:
Why it matters: For the many AD patients who don't achieve full relief on dupilumab, abrocitinib offers a compelling alternative — and may help redefine treatment goals toward complete disease suppression.
